# About Favorite Document Notifications

You can choose to receive email notifications when specific updates occur on your favorite documents. When you collaborate with a large team in Vault, it can be difficult to stay informed of changes to documents. By choosing to receive notifications when updates occur on your favorite documents, you'll find it easy to stay current.

To receive these notifications, edit your user profile
and select either _Every Occurrence_ or _Summary_ next to _Favorite Documents_. If neither option is selected, Vault sets _Email Preferences_ for _Favorite Documents_ to _Never_, which disables email notifications but continues to send you notifications through the notification bell
. An Admin may disable
notifications within Vault if _Favorite Documents_ is set to _Never_. Vault never sends you notifications about your own actions on your favorite documents.

## Notification Options

If you select _Favorite Documents_ from your user profile, Vault sends you notifications for specific updates on your favorite documents. If you have access to multiple Vaults in the same domain, the notifications apply to all of those Vaults.

## Related Permissions

You must be in a document role that grants the _View Document_ permission in order to receive notifications for that document.

For example, Gladys marked a document as a favorite when it was in _Approved_ state and she had access to it. When that document moved to _Draft_ state, her role no longer allowed her to access it, so she does not receive notifications about updates to the document.

## About Favorite Objects

When you **Favorite** an object record from an object record list page, Vault lists the record under that object's **Favorites** menu, under the **Views**
heading.

Vault does not support notifications for favorite object records.
