# Creating New Unclassified Documents in Vault Mobile

You can use the Vault Mobile app to upload files to a Vault as unclassified PDF documents, either by scanning physical document pages or (unless disabled by an Admin) by selecting a file from your device for upload. To use this feature, select the **+** icon in the upper right corner of the _Library_ tab. This button is only visible if you have the appropriate permissions to create unclassified documents in the Vault. Then, select one of the following options:

  * **Photo/Video**: (iOS only) opens your device’s photo/video album screen so that you can select a photo or video file to upload
  * **File**: opens your device's file browser so that you can select and upload a file of any type on Android, or a non-photo/video file on iOS
  * **Scan**: launches your device's camera so that you can scan the pages of a document to upload as a PDF

## Scanning a Document

Once you select **Scan** and your camera appears:
1. Position your document in view and take a picture.
    * On iOS, there is an "Auto" capture mode that will automatically capture and crop the document page once detected. On Android, you need to tap the button in the middle to capture each document page.
2. Once you've captured all document pages, tap the image thumbnail in the lower left corner to edit the images. From the Edit screen, you can crop, adjust the color filter, rotate, or delete pages. When you have made your changes, select **Done**. You can take up to 24 images for a single document.
3. Select **Save**.
4. Edit the default **Document Name** if desired**.**
5. Optional: If uploading to a Clinical Operations Vault, select a **Study**, **Study Country**, and **Study Site**.
6. If your Vault has the **Certified Copy** field enabled, you will see an option to perform a copy certification for your document. This consists of answering a series of questions to confirm the quality of the scanned document.
7. Select **Upload**. An upload progress bar will appear at the bottom of the screen. When the upload is complete, the banner will disappear and you will be able to access your document in the Library tab. It may take a few seconds for the document to be processed and ready for viewing on mobile.

## Uploading Files to Placeholders

You can also upload a file to a placeholder document using the same methods described above as long as you have the correct permissions to edit the document. While viewing the placeholder, select **Add File** to choose or scan your file for upload.
