# About Subject & Enrollment Metrics Jobs

## Updating Metrics

Several jobs in Vault update _Metrics_ records in Veeva CTMS for tracking enrollment and subject progress in a clinical trial. These metrics are critical for managing studies and are leveraged across the system, including on the [Study Manager](/en/lr/39903/) and [CRA](/en/lr/39905/) home pages, within features that link _Monitoring_ and [_Complex Trials_](/en/lr/80113/), and in the related [_Payments_](/en/lr/58941/) application. The jobs function as follows:

| Update Metrics | Runs when you add a new _Subject_, remove a _Subject_, or update a subject's _Study_, _Study Country_, _Study Site_, _Subject Status_, _Subject Group_ or, if calculating _Date-Based_ metrics, _Subject Status_ date fields, such as _Enrolled Date_. Does not run for archived studies. | Starts one hour after the first change to a subject | The job runs independently for each _Study_ and only updates _Metrics_ and, if applicable, _Metrics Over Time_ records for areas that you added or changed. For example, if you add an _Enrolled Date_ to a subject, only the _Total Enrolled_ metric/metric over time is updated. This job will also update or create _Enrollment Status Logs_. Does not update metrics for archived studies. Vault notifies you if the _Update Metrics_ job fails.  | * _Status Snapshot_ <br> * _Date-Based_   |
| Update Monitored Metrics | Runs when you add a new _Monitored Subject_, remove a _Monitored Subject_, or update a _Monitored Subject's Subject Status_ or, if calculating _Date-Based_ metrics, Subject _Status_ dates, such as _Enrolled Date_. | Starts five minutes after the first change to a _Monitored Subject_. | Vault creates a set of monitored metrics the first time this job runs. | Recalculate Enrollment Metrics| Runs when you execute the _Recalculate Enrollment Metrics_ user action on a _Study_. | User determined | Recalculates all _Actual Metric_ values (_Actual Total Enrolled_, _Actual Completed_, etc.) on all _Metrics_ and, if applicable, _Metrics Over Time_-related object records at the _Study_, _Study Country_, _Site_, and _Subject Group_ levels. If calculating _Date-Based_ metrics, Vault will also recalculate _Enrollment Status Logs_. For studies using the _Metrics Only_ , the job resets all _Metrics_ values to zero. When you run the job for a _Study_ with the _Transferred Metrics_ setting, Vault displays an error. | * _Status Snapshot_ <br> * _Date-Based_ <br> * _Metrics Only_ |
