# Configuring Safety Distributions

With Veeva Site Connect, users on Clinical Operations Vaults can distribute safety documents to all study sites. Vault emails the documents to the appropriate _Study Persons_ associated with the _Study Site_. For sites using SiteVault, Vault [transfers the documents](/en/lr/65187/#receiving) directly to their Vault.

## Configuration Overview
The following configurations allow you to distribute _Safety Distributions_ to Study Sites:
  * Add the **Safety Distribution** (`safety_distribution__v`) [shared field](/en/lr/4884/#use-shared-field) to the appropriate document types. The _Safety Distribution_ shared field allows users to add those document types to *Safety Distribution* and *Safety Distribution Support* records.
  * Map the **Expedited Safety Report** Vault Clinical Docs artifact to the necessary document types. This allows you to send those document types with _Safety Distributions_.
  * On the **Safety Distribution Lifecycle**, configure the **Distribute to Sites** [user action](/en/lr/59885/#user-actions) on the *Ready* and *Distributed* lifecycle states.
  * Add the **Site Connect User** field and the **Study Person Responsibilities** application control section to the _Study Person_ page layout.

The following configurations allows you to send _Safety Distributions_ to _Study Persons_:
  * Add the **Safety Distribution** value to the _Connected Study Type_ field picklist on the _Study_ object.
  * Configure [_Study Person_ records](/en/lr/64831/) for all _Study Sites_ that will receive _Safety Distributions_.

## Defining Safety Distribution Types
_Safety Distribution Types_ allow you to create multiple sets of distribution defaults per document type. Rather than creating many document types to accommodate the need for a variety of distribution rules, a single document type can now be used in combination with multiple _Safety Distribution Types_. To define a _Safety Distribution Type_:

1. Navigate to **Business Admin > Objects > Safety Distribution Types**.
2. Click **Create**.
3. Enter a **Name** and **Description**.
4. Click **Save**.
