# Exporting Study Document Audit Trails

eTMF Vaults allow you to generate audit trails for documents associated with _Study_ records.

## Configuration Overview
* Configure the **Export Full Study Audit Trail** system action on the _Study_ object.
* Optional: Enable the **Available in All Lifecycle States** flag. If this is enabled, Admins do not need to configure the _Export Full Study Audit Trail_ user action on the _Study Lifecycle_.
* Configure the **Export Full Study Audit Trail** user action on the applicable [_Study Lifecycle_](/en/lr/39215/) lifecycle states. 
* Optional: Configure atomic security [atomic security](/en/lr/47850/#Atomic_Security_Actions) for the _Export Full Study Document Audit Trail_ user action to manage user's access to the action.

## Exporting Study Document Audit Trails

When configured, the **Export Full Study Document Audit Trail** user action generates a downloadable audit trail for all documents associated with a _Study_ record. This action is available for both active and [archived](/en/lr/66648/) _Study_ records. Selecting the **Export Full Study Audit Trail** user action on a _Study_ record opens a dialog box where you can select a **Start** and **End Date** for the document audit trail.

Vault generates the _Study_ document audit trail for the dates between the _Start_ and _End Date_ values. Vault defaults the _Start Date_ to 30 days before the current date. A blank _End Date_ field generates a file up to the current date. Selecting a _Start_ or _End Date_ is optional. When the _Start_ and _End Date_ are blank, Vault generates a document audit trail for the entire history of the _Study_ record.

When you select **Confirm** in the dialog box, the system generates the audit trail. Once complete, Vault sends you a notification with a link to download the document audit trail CSV file. The _Study Document Audit Trail_ file captures the _Document Name_, _Document ID_, and _Classification_ for each document in addition to the audit trail.

Users can complete all steps in this article with the standard _Business Admin_, _System Admin_, or _Vault Owner_ security profile. If your Vault uses custom security profiles, your profile must grant the following [permissions](/en/lr/22824/):
